Abstract
How do historians define a village? To answer this question, much discussed since the 1960s, it is necessary to re-examine the historian’s contribution. Historians have recentred their scientific interests and questions have diversified: the question of the village has been transformed to address wider problems. This paper retraces the development of the notion of a village and its components.
