THE BOSQUETS SITE IN MONTFERMEIL (SEINE-SAINT-DENIS):
re-examination of an almost forgotten Mesolithic deposit

IC MESOLITHIQUE GB

Abstract

Discovery of the Montfermeil Mesolithic deposit, during the building of the Bosquet estate on a plateau overlooking the Marne, led to rescue excavations in 1964 and 1965 and publication in a local revue in 1968. A collective research project during the 2010s renewed interest in the site whilst trial excavation close by in 2017 provided fresh data. Examination of the excavation archives and a preliminary finds study confirmed the site’s importance. This paper provides an extensive presentation of existing data and considers the site within the Mesolithic context of northern France.
