EARLY MEDIEVAL FUNERARY STRUCTURES IN THE ÎLE-DE-FRANCE

Abstract

Examples of graves and their furnishings are abundant, making it often difficult to establish a typology applicable to all sites in the same region. However, for Early Medieval Île-de-France, groups are emerging. They can be linked primarily to ecclesiastical recommendations and the availability of materials (iron, wood, stone, or plaster). This period of almost half a millennium is probably where funerary practices changed the fastest.
