INTRODUCTION – LATE GLACIAL AND HOLOCENE EVOLUTION
OF THE CROULD RIVER BASIN (VAL-D’OISE)

 

Abstract

The Crould basin comprises a significant succession of valley formations from the beginning of the Late Glacial period (Bølling) to the later Holocene (Subatlantic). The auger and core sampling show sediments that are organised by sectors forming homogeneous sequences. The Late Glacial period comprises organic-mineral silts, tufas and peats (Bølling through to Allerød) and silts mixed with debris (Older Dryas).The first half of the Holocene includes tufaceous peats and tufas. During the second half of the Holocene, the organic-mineral silts formed during the La Tène make way for clayey silts from the significant human erosion of the valley slopes.
